In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
netfilter: IDLETIMER: Fix for possible ABBA deadlock

the same time as a read of its file in sysfs:

CVE-2024-54680
Disclosure Date: January 11, 2025 (last updated January 17, 2025)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
smb: client: fix TCP timers deadlock after rmmod
Commit ef7134c7fc48 ("smb: client: Fix use-after-free of network namespace.")
fixed a netns UAF by manually enabled socket refcounting
(sk->sk_net_refcnt=1 and sock_inuse_add(net, 1)).
The reason the patch worked for that bug was because we now hold
references to the netns (get_net_track() gets a ref internally)
and they're properly released (internally, on __sk_destruct()),
but only because sk->sk_net_refcnt was set.
Problem:
(this happens regardless of CONFIG_NET_NS_REFCNT_TRACKER and regardless
if init_net or other)
Setting sk->sk_net_refcnt=1 *manually* and *after* socket creation is not
only out of cifs scope, but also technically wrong -- it's set conditionally
based on user (=1) vs kernel (=0) sockets. And net/ implementations
seem to base their user vs kernel space operations on it.
e.g. upon TCP socket close, the TCP timers are not cleared because

Disclosure Date: January 11, 2025 (last updated January 17, 2025)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
Bluetooth: iso: Fix circular lock in iso_listen_bis
This fixes the circular locking dependency warning below, by
releasing the socket lock before enterning iso_listen_bis, to
avoid any potential deadlock with hdev lock.

CVE-2024-54191
Disclosure Date: January 11, 2025 (last updated January 17, 2025)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
Bluetooth: iso: Fix circular lock in iso_conn_big_sync
This fixes the circular locking dependency warning below, by reworking
iso_sock_recvmsg, to ensure that the socket lock is always released
before calling a function that locks hdev.

CVE-2024-50051
Disclosure Date: January 11, 2025 (last updated February 04, 2025)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
spi: mpc52xx: Add cancel_work_sync before module remove
If we remove the module which will call mpc52xx_spi_remove
it will free 'ms' through spi_unregister_controller.
while the work ms->work will be used. The sequence of operations
that may lead to a UAF bug.
Fix it by ensuring that the work is canceled before proceeding with
the cleanup in mpc52xx_spi_remove.

CVE-2024-48881
Disclosure Date: January 11, 2025 (last updated February 01, 2025)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
bcache: revert replacing IS_ERR_OR_NULL with IS_ERR again
Commit 028ddcac477b ("bcache: Remove unnecessary NULL point check in
node allocations") leads a NULL pointer deference in cache_set_flush().
1721 if (!IS_ERR_OR_NULL(c->root))
1722 list_add(&c->root->list, &c->btree_cache);
>From the above code in cache_set_flush(), if previous registration code
fails before allocating c->root, it is possible c->root is NULL as what
it is initialized. __bch_btree_node_alloc() never returns NULL but
c->root is possible to be NULL at above line 1721.
This patch replaces IS_ERR() by IS_ERR_OR_NULL() to fix this.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
netfilter: nft_socket: remove WARN_ON_ONCE on maximum cgroup level
cgroup maximum depth is INT_MAX by default, there is a cgroup toggle to
restrict this maximum depth to a more reasonable value not to harm
performance. Remove unnecessary WARN_ON_ONCE which is reachable from
userspace.

CVE-2024-56780
Disclosure Date: January 08, 2025 (last updated January 10, 2025)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
quota: flush quota_release_work upon quota writeback
One of the paths quota writeback is called from is:
freeze_super()
sync_filesystem()
ext4_sync_fs()
dquot_writeback_dquots()
Since we currently don't always flush the quota_release_work queue in
this path, we can end up with the following race:
1. dquot are added to releasing_dquots list during regular operations.
2. FS Freeze starts, however, this does not flush the quota_release_work queue.
3. Freeze completes.
4. Kernel eventually tries to flush the workqueue while FS is frozen which
hits a WARN_ON since transaction gets started during frozen state:
ext4_journal_check_start+0x28/0x110 [ext4] (unreliable)
__ext4_journal_start_sb+0x64/0x1c0 [ext4]
ext4_release_dquot+0x90/0x1d0 [ext4]
quota_release_workfn+0x43c/0x4d0
Which is the following line:
WARN_ON(sb->s_writers.frozen == SB_FREEZE_COMPLETE);
Which ultimately results in ge…

CVE-2024-56774
Disclosure Date: January 08, 2025 (last updated January 10, 2025)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
btrfs: add a sanity check for btrfs root in btrfs_search_slot()
Syzbot reports a null-ptr-deref in btrfs_search_slot().
The reproducer is using rescue=ibadroots, and the extent tree root is
corrupted thus the extent tree is NULL.
When scrub tries to search the extent tree to gather the needed extent
info, btrfs_search_slot() doesn't check if the target root is NULL or
not, resulting the null-ptr-deref.
Add sanity check for btrfs root before using it in btrfs_search_slot().
